Managing Time

by T.M Kayode

This blogpost is as much for me as it probably is for you. Life is basically a sum of time spent. Hence, managing time translates to managing your life.

At the beginning of every year, we make plans, projections and so on. Somewhere down the line, its September 2019 and you’ve probably not made good on any of those plans.

This blog post is serving as a reminder and I hope to be able to give easy practical tips that may help. It is my hope that by using these ideas you would be able to look back on the year and have reasons to smile because of the tangible progress you’ve made.

Time management tips

#1 To-do List – The Target

Starting out with a to-do list is absolutely important. To be honest, the first few days may be rough – you may not be to follow through with your plans. Don’t worry! Just keep at it. Soon, you would see an improvement and attain increased efficiency.

#2 Set Timelines – The Process

Even in making plans with the list, you also need to set realistic timelines against each item on the list.

#3 Use every pocket of time

Try as much as possible to fill every pocket of time you may have with as much learning opportunities as possible. For instance, you can have podcasts, e-books etc. loaded up on your phone for whenever you have a chance to listen. Take that book you’ve always wanted to read along with you – you never can tell when you would have the opportunity to read etc.

#4 Reduce Time wasting activities

Mind you! I said Reduce not eliminate. It may not be easy at first to outrightly cut out some time-wasting activities. However, you can reduce their frequency of occurrence. For instance, for the sake of your goal, I’m sure you can reduce your TV watching from 5hours to 1 hour and only after you have completed your task.

#5 Stay Disciplined

Continue to repeat activities that propel you closer to your goal. There may be some stumbling blocks along the way but stay on course.

#6 Evaluate and Reward yourself

At the end of every week, think back on your activities and evaluate your progress. Based on the feedback from your evaluation, think of ways you can do better and make plans to implement in the new week. Remember to reward yourself on the good work done.
