The Course Platform I Created: A Closer Look

by T.M Kayode

In my last blog post, I promised to share more details about the course platform I created using Trainer Central. Well, here it is: How to Shape Culture.

The course is a sample project I built for a mentor of mine, someone who has been in the training and coaching business for decades. The idea was to take some of his powerful teachings, repurpose them into a structured curriculum, and bring it to life on Trainer Central.

Here’s what the course looks like:

The Course Structure

The course is divided into five modules, each designed to maximize engagement and learning:

  1. Short, Focused Videos:
The first four modules start with a short, text-based video (no longer than 2 minutes). This approach is intentional—to grab and sustain participants’ attention without overwhelming them.
  2. Deep Dives Through PDFs:
After the video, each module provides a PDF document that dives deeper into the topic, offering more context and insights into the key points.
  3. Tests to Reinforce Learning:
Each module ends with a test—featuring multiple-choice, yes/no, and scenario-based questions. These tests are designed to reinforce the lessons and ensure participants are retaining the core ideas.
  4. Additional Resources:
The final module includes an embedded link to a series of sermons delivered by my mentor during a four-part series at Harvesters in October 2024. This allows participants to explore the original teachings in more depth if they wish.
  5. Certificates of Participation:
At the end of the course, participants are rewarded with a Certificate of Participation. It’s a great way to celebrate their efforts and provide something tangible they can add to their portfolio.

How I Built the Course

To create the text-based videos for each module, I started by writing scripts for the key topics. Then, using Lumen5—a fantastic tool for creating short videos—I developed visually engaging videos that aligned with the curriculum. The free version of Lumen5 allows you to create videos up to 2 minutes long, which worked perfectly for this project.

Next, I prepared the PDFs for each module. These documents provided a deeper dive into the material, breaking down concepts and offering additional examples to drive the message home.

Finally, I added the tests. I made sure to include a mix of question types to keep things interesting and challenge participants to think critically about the lessons.

Final Thoughts

Creating this sample course on Trainer Central has been such an exciting journey! The platform made it easy to design, structure, and launch a professional course that feels accessible and impactful. From the built-in website storefront to the ability to add certificates, the entire process was seamless and fun to explore.

If you’d like to check out the course for yourself, here’s the link again: How to Shape Culture.

Would you like me to share more about the tools or techniques I used? Let me know in the comments or send me a message—I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Until next time…
