Early Morning Reflections: Trees, Cleaning, Books, and Plans

by T.M Kayode

It’s currently 2:30 a.m. as I write this. I should be sleeping, but for some reason, I’m wide awake. So, instead of tossing and turning, I decided to capitalize on this moment and get some work done before the day fully swings into action.

Updates From the Last Post

First things first, the big news: I FOUND THE TREE!

Where was it, you ask? Well, it was exactly where I kept it. Classic, right? In my defense, the day I went looking for it, I was NOT in my winter jacket, and it was cooooooooooold. When I opened the patio door and didn’t see the tree right within view, I jumped to the conclusion that I must have thrown it away during last spring’s cleaning frenzy.

Turns out, it was right there, just behind another big box, patiently waiting for me to find it.

As you can imagine, Dabbie was over the moon when she came home and saw the tree standing proudly in the living room. I left the decorations out for her so she could have all the fun of setting it up. Christmas magic restored!

Today is a special day at Dabbie’s school—it’s Pyjama Day and also a half-day, with school closing at 11:30 a.m. Meanwhile, Tiara’s school will only be taking a break on the 24th and 25th, so it’ll still be open for most of the holiday season. I haven’t fully decided if Tiara will attend during this period. She might go on days when we need to focus on getting a lot of things done around the house.

By the way, if you’re enjoying these little slices of my life and updates, would you consider subscribing to this blog? I’d love to keep sharing moments, thoughts, and insights with you!

I also started the deep cleaning project for the house yesterday. Out of six rooms, I’ve tackled… one. Yes, you can roll your eyes now, but I’m calling this progress! Baby steps, right? Lol.

On another note, we managed to give Dabbie’s teachers their Christmas gifts yesterday. It was a last-minute scramble (as usual), but I found some adorable mugs and lovely candles at the store. Crisis averted!

Books on My Christmas Wishlist

Speaking of gifts, I bought some books yesterday, and I’m really excited about diving into them:

  • The World is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman (recommended by Dr. Olakunle Soriyan)
  • The Age of Revolutions by Fareed Zakaria (also recommended by Dr. Olakunle Soriyan)
  • Visioneering by Andy Stanley (recommended by Pastor Debola Deji-Kurunmi)

But if you’re thinking of what to get me for Christmas (wink wink), here are a few more books I’d love to add to my collection:

  • The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell (recommended by Dr. Olakunle Soriyan)
  • Deep Work by Cal Newport (recommended by Pastor Debola Deji-Kurunmi)
  • Expert Secrets by Russell Brunson (recommended by Tobi Simonyan)

Let’s just say 2024 is shaping up to be a year of deep reading and learning for me.

What’s on the Agenda for Today?

Looking ahead, here’s what my day is shaping up to look like:

  1. Work on a Document: I started drafting this on Monday, and my goal is to finish it today and send it off to the recipient.
  2. Watch The Six Triple Eight: I’ve been eagerly waiting for this Netflix release by Tyler Perry. I’ve watched the trailer so many times, and the first time I saw it, I literally cried. The weight of how marginalized groups have had to fight to prove their relevance hit me hard. Tyler Perry, please don’t mess this up!
  3. Continue Deep Cleaning: One room down, five to go. Pray for me. Lol.
  4. Tree Decorating: Dabbie will likely pick up where she left off, adding more magic to our Christmas setup.
  5. Set Up a New Website: I might start this today, but if not, tomorrow is fine too. I’ve got something exciting brewing!
  6. Collaborate on a Bible Study Devotional: I’m working on this project with a few collaborators, and today I need to send out some emails to move things forward.
  7. Cook: No elaborate plans here—just feeding the family!
  8. Read: I plan to finish reading at least one of the books on my current list.

Stay Tuned

That’s it! My plans for today, as of 3:10 a.m. when I’m wrapping up this post. I’ll keep you posted on how it all goes—maybe later today or tomorrow morning.

So, what about you? How are your holiday plans coming along? Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear about it!

Until next time…
Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
