Prepping for Dabbie’s 4th Birthday

by T.M Kayode

As the end of May approaches, a significant date is circled on our family calendar: May 28th, Dabbie’s 4th birthday. My firstborn, my little bundle of joy, is about to turn four, and I find myself immersed in thoughts about how to make this day truly special for her. This year, we’re opting for a more intimate celebration, unlike the guest-filled party of her third birthday. It will just be the four of us, celebrating quietly but with love and excitement.

Despite deciding against a grand party, there are several delightful ideas buzzing in my mind to sprinkle magic throughout her day.

Surprise Decorations

First on the list is a lovely surprise for Dabbie to wake up to. While she sleeps, we plan to adorn her door lintel with streamers. Imagine her delight as she steps out of her room, greeted by a cascade of colorful decorations! It’s a simple yet enchanting way to start her special day.

Balloons and Pink Galore

No birthday is complete without balloons, and for Dabbie, it has to be a big number 4 balloon. Her love for balloons is boundless, and this will surely bring a wide smile to her face. Adding to the excitement, Dabbie has requested everything to be pink this year. To fulfill her pink dreams, she’ll get a new pink outfit and shoes for school, and another set for Sunday. Seeing her twirl around in her favorite color will be priceless.

A Memorable Photoshoot

One of my bigger plans is a comprehensive photoshoot, capturing several significant moments in one go. This photoshoot will not only celebrate Dabbie’s birthday but also mark Tiara’s monthly milestone, our wedding anniversary, and even my birthday for 2024. It seems ambitious, but consolidating these events into a single photoshoot feels like an efficient and fun way to create lasting memories. The challenge now is to decide on colors and themes that seamlessly blend all these occasions together.

Food and Cake

When it comes to food, I’m planning to rustle up a nice meal for Tuesday. If time or energy doesn’t permit, we might wait until the weekend for a special family dinner. The centerpiece, of course, will be a pink cake. Dabbie has specifically requested this, and I’m considering making it a shared activity by baking the cake together. This way, the cake becomes more than just a treat; it turns into a cherished memory.

Thoughtful Gifts

Selecting the perfect gifts for Dabbie is both a joy and a thoughtful process. Here’s what I have in mind:

  • Books: To nurture her love for stories and reading.
  • Playhouse: For endless hours of imaginative play.
  • Piggy Bank: A cute way to start teaching her about financial stewardship.
  • Alarm Clock: To help her understand the concepts of time and routines.
  • Magnetiles: Because she loves building and creating structures, these will stimulate her creativity and problem-solving skills.
  • Bicycle: A new adventure waiting to unfold, perfect for outdoor fun and exercise.

Every choice is made with love, keeping in mind what she enjoys and what would benefit her development.

Final Thoughts

As I put together these plans, my heart swells with anticipation. Celebrating Dabbie’s 4th birthday may not involve a grand party, but the essence of joy and love remains intact. Each small gesture, from the streamers on her door to the carefully selected gifts, is a reflection of our affection and our desire to make her feel cherished.

I can’t wait to see the look on her face when she wakes up to her special day, and I hope these ideas inspire other parents planning intimate birthdays. Here’s to making beautiful memories with our little ones!
